ESRA Educational Support Grant and Ambassador Programme

 

1. ESRA Educational Support Grant

Grants will be given to ESRA members applying for support of participation in a teaching program in a recognized specialised centre of excellence for regional anaesthesia in Europe. Grants will be given preferably to those who apply for a teaching program headed by an ESRA member in order to avoid substandard programs.

The grants are given to encourage participation in teaching programs (rotations) and/ or research of a minimum of a three months period. The grant should be used for travel costs from the home country to the teaching hospital, and for costs of living at the teaching site.

Grants consist of a fixed 1000€ travel expenses reimbursement paid by bank transfer 4 weeks ahead of the start of the educational program (to be confirmed by the programs director). Thereafter, a grant of 1000€ per months will be transferred for a minimum period of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months.

The application should include:

  • a written statement of the head of the educational program describing the rotational program and stating, that they are prepared to host this applicant in case of a positive decision by the board.
  • the time frame of the visit
  • a CV of the applicant
  • ESRA membership number of the applicant and of the host

2. ESRA Ambassador Programme

Clinical institutions and departments of anaesthesia headed by an ESRA member can apply for a visit by a member of the ESRA Ambassador Programme. In this programme distinguished experts and lecturers in regional anaesthesia and pain management –established experienced ESRA members - will visit the institution for up to one week giving lectures and clinical demonstrations.

The institution visited must supply the following:

  • Provide technical equipment for lectures
  • Provide patients and volunteers (including informed consent and insurance) for demonstrations
  • Provide equipement (needles, catheters, ultrasound machines, nerve stimulators etc.), materials and medication
  • Commitment of financial support by the local institution and/or local companies
  • Provide appropriate free accommodation for the ESRA Ambassador
  • Invite young colleagues to participate

The commitment of ESRA Ambassador programme:

  • Select appropriate senior lecturers
  • Reimburse costs of travel insurance
  • Reimburse professional insurance and medical insurance for activities abroad
  • Reimburse travel cost up to 1000€
  • Reimburse 250€ per day of active lecturing as a compensation (up to 1000€ per trip)

Applications could be forwarded at any time of the year to the ESRA bureau. There will be an emphasis on applications from anaesthesiologists/institutions from countries with limited structures and financial background to achieve the education in regional anaesthesia, such as some of the eastern European countries or some countries of the African continent. Applicants (head of the department) should be ESRA members.

 

The application should include:

  • a written statement of the head of the institution describing the institution, the clinical need, the topics of education aimed at, the number of colleagues involved and the time frame of the visit.
  • a CV of the applicant (head of department)
  • ESRA membership number of the applicant
  • Statement regarding free accommodation
  • Statement regarding technical equipment, patients and volunteers (including statement regarding informed consent and insurance)
  • Written statement that the institution hosting the ambassador will hold responsible for any medical litigation aspects concerning medicial decisions or treatment performed  or supervised by the ambassador during his or her stay.

The application may specify the name of the preferred ambassador include a suggestion of names of preferred persons being the ambassador. Nevertheless, the final decision will be made by the ESRA board or by a subcommittee nominated by the board.

Decisions regarding the applications for the ESRA Ambassador programme will usually be made by the board twice a year for applications received before February 1st, and for applications received before August 1st
